Certificate of Authenticity from Milt Byron of Byron's Hockeyland dated December 15, 2003
Tags:
Stall & Dean manufacturer's tag; washing tag; three small tags which read "52," "2," and "MENS"
Patches:
This jersey contains the ECAC Hockey patch; it is frayed on the edges with losse stitching.
Nameplate:
There is no nameplate; names were not used on the back of the Union College sweaters during this time period.
Hemline:
The hemline is clean and fairly unremarkable.
Neck:
The neckline shows little to no stress.
Fight Strap:
THis jersey does not feature a fight strap.
Left Sleeve and Shoulder:
The left sleeve and shoulder show moderate to good game use. A couple of stick marks, one fairly faint, can be seen on
the lower white stripe. The "21" is screened onto the mesh jersey. To the left of the numbers is
some faint blackening that displays as worn out and grey. The shoulder patch is screened onto the jersey.
Right Sleeve and Shoulder:
A very faint hack mark can be seen on the grey of the cuff. Above the stripes, next to the screened "21,"
is an upside-down v-shaped stick mark. Below the Union shoulder patch, which is screened on, is
a small stick mark and below that, a spot of red board or pipe paint. The screened patch has been
hacked at and is starting to peel in some places. A good scraping, probably from a stick, can be found
above the patch.
Jersey Front:
The jersey front shows great game use. In the area below the crest, there is great general filth, including
several puckerings, stick marks, and hacks. A long stick mark is visible on the lower half of the screened
crest/logo. More puck marks appear to the left of the crest as you view the jersey. The ECAC Hockey patch is sewn
onto the jersey front and shows great fraying. A small stick mark can be found below and to the left of the patch.
An unrepaired hole can be found to the left of the ECAC patch and a small black mark above the patch.
Jersey Back:
A small tan spot, possibly the beginning of a board burn, can be found on the lower white
stripe. A long maroon thread is seen where the silver and maroon stripes meet. A scrape of some sort
is found on the white mesh to the lower right of the screened on jersey numbers. The bottoms of the
numbers, especially the "2," show good hackings and general battle scars.
Other Notes:
Having lived in the Albany-Schenectady area for a little over a year, I had always wanted a
Union College gamer as part of my collection. This jersey, according to Milt Byron, is believed
to have been worn in the mid-1980s and according to my research, Union was a Division III team at the time.
