Whatever tags were originally sewn into the jersey were ripped or torn out. The tags were
discarded when the team repaired the jersey's neckline.
Patches:
There are no patches on this jersey.
Nameplate:
Names and nameplates were not used on Virginia Lancers jerseys.
Hemline:
The red white and blue stripes along the hemline exhibit good game use and abuse.
There is an unrepaired hole visible on the white stripe of the jersey front and a thumb-sized hole on the right side of the jersey back
where the red and white stripes meet. There is good general filth along the hemline including good stick and puck marks
on the white stripe of the sweater. There is some slight material snagging on the lower red stripe and good pilling
throughout. There is a small CCM logo screened onto the back right hem which shows heavy abuse and is peeling along
the right side where the "M" is.
Neck:
The neckline is hammered and shows intense fight abuse. The back of the neckline where the
tags should be is torn down past the shoulder seam and is heavily repaired with a huge custom knit plate sewn in
for refortification. The area just below the plate is heavily stretched and almost disassembled.
The stitching in the neck is pounded and broken in portions all the way around. The front "V" of the neckline was torn and
shows a small repair. There is a rust-orange staining on the inside of the necline that is visible when you face the
jersey from the front which could be a blood stain.
Fight Strap:
There is no fight strap on this jersey. A coin and skate lace tie-down was used.
Left Sleeve and Shoulder:
The left sleeve and shoulder
show excellent game abuse. The blue stripe on the cuff shows good board burning. There is a faint red spot on the white
stripe of the sleeve which may be board or pipe paint. There are several unrepaired holes on the jersey sleeve as well
as material snagging, pilling, and puck markings. The "5" on the sleeve is "crumpled" and exhibits a blue stain on the
top left corner. The shoulder portion good general filth and material snagging. There is a small rust-orange stain on the
portion of the shoulder near the sleeve number.
Right Sleeve and Shoulder:
The right sleeve and shoulder
show excellent game abuse. The blue stripe on the cuff has a small unrepaired hole. The red of the sleeve contains a cluster of
unrepaired holes as well as excellent puck and stick markings. Above and to the right of the "5" on the sleeve is a
small unrepaired hole. The shoulder portion has an unrepaired hole towards the jersey back and a larger hole near
the stitching where the white meets the red on the front side.
Jersey Front:
The jersey front shows great game use and
excellent character. The crest is screened onto the sweater and is made up of the
name "Virginia Lancers" running across. The screening is worn and shows signs of age. The most
prominent feature on the jersey front is a five-inch diagonal rip on the lower right side
of the sweater as you view it. The rip begins about an inch above the blue stripe and runs
upwards to the left. You can literally fit your fist through the hole. The front hem exhibits
good game use, puck markings, and general filth. The jersey front has some material snagging
a couple of small black marks. There is a small burn on the front of the sweater. At the
top of the sweater where the right shoulder section meets the red jersey front there is a thumb-sized
hole where the jersey front has pulled away from the seam connecting the two parts.
Jersey Back:
The jersey back shows good game abuse. The screened on "5"
is crumpled with age and perhaps from being ironed at some point. Above the "5" where the
shoulder portions meet the red fabric of the jersey back there is a major team repair that was
set in place to repair the neck line which was torn down to the red fabric. The red fabric is
practically disassembled and stretched to the limit. Below the "5" is the indentation made by the coin
that was used for the coin and skate lace tie-down. The indentation is still round and intact.
A "V" tear is evident on the hemline as is the peeling CCM screened patch mentioned in the "Hem"
section above. There is some material snagging and some puck markings on the jersey back.
Other Notes:
This particular Ed Considine
jersey is a vintage example of a jersey of a defunct team and league. The jersey displays
amazingly well and is truly a gem. Considine racked up over 170 penalty minutes during the season
this jersey was worn so it is inevitable that this jersey would show tremendous abuse.
The wear on this sweater gives the jersey character and the $175 price tag was well
worth it.
